Sarah Deacon is a self-taught artist, designer, photographer, stylist, writer, DJ, dancer and vintage collector, with a PhD in Science. After spending many years studying, first a BSc (hons) in Chemistry, a PhD in Biological Sciences, followed by Post-Graduate Certificate in Innovation Management and conducting academic research as a Senior Post-doctoral Research Fellow and University teaching, she suffered from chronic stress and felt it was time to pursue her other passions, art, dance and music. After becoming a little obsessed with Latin dance, she wanted to sell and design her own sportswear / athleisurewear, combining her passion for design & dance. After her travels in Australia, she created her first collection for her brand Bush Medicine in 2018.
Sarah sells a selection of her photographs, illustrations and art prints. She loves pattern design and has passion for upcycling, harvesting and recycling vintage fabrics and using the prints as inspiration in her own designs. She loves to mix old and new, which is reflected in her eclectic mix of items. Sarah takes inspiration from various places, both her University days, her dance experience and travel, where she has met people from various countries and cultures, as well as numerous famous artists. In particular she admires the work of artists such as Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt, Georgia O’Keeffe, Frida Kahlo, Cesar Manrique, Roberto Burle Marx, Warhol, indigenous aboriginal artists from Australia and many other artists from the Expressionist, Fauvist, Cubist, Avant Garde and Pop-Art movements.
After developing her first brand Bush Medicine, inspired by her travels in Australia, she also created Eliza North in 2020 and the newest in the collection Goth Baby in 2022.
Her collections have expanded and include women’s, men’s, children’s, homewares, furniture and art prints. She also hand picks a selection of products from other brands to complement her own collections.
If that wasn’t enough Sarah is also creating a range of stationery for people with Dyslexia called Greypads, which she hopes will be available on Azteque very soon, plus a few other items in the pipeline. She is also working on her fiction and non-fiction books for children and adults.
